1 girl wearing 1 dress for 1 year to raise money for thirteen orphans in Jinja, Uganda,

My name is Tatiana.
I am nineteen years young. In the middle of last year, I was inspired in the midst of my busy life to do something out of the ordinary for an orphanage in Uganda. I would hear little things here and there at my church and through the internet about the children. Though I have never visited Africa, the children always seemed to tug at my heart. In late August the “LBD” (Little Black Dress) project came to my attention. Women have pledged to wear a little black dress for a certain amount of days to raise money for organizations. It is thought of as a ‘dress marathon’. I decided to this very project and raise my funds for Redeemer House Orphanage.
January 1st, 2013 I will slip on a little black dress that I will be wearing the entire year for the love of the thirteen orphans in Uganda.
For twelve months I will raise awareness and identify with the children around the world that only have one outfit. Through sponsors and donations, I want to raise $10,000 for Redeemer House Orphanage(RHO) before the year is up. I am headed off on this exciting adventure ready to learn and be stretched in ways I have never experienced before. I am happy to be able to do this for the orphans at RHO. As much as I feel like I am doing something to help the children in Uganda, they are the ones helping me. The project has not yet officially started (3 days!), yet I have been blessed beyond imagination.
I am stepping out of my comfort zone and cherishing the lives of 13 orphans I have never met. Though it may sound funny to tell someone “I am wearing 1 dress for an entire year”, or feel uneasy at times, the Lord is shaping me in ways that are unexplainable. I know the months to come are going to bring countless blessings.

I just wanted to share my small story of thankfulness and living generously with you.

Much love,
Tatiana
