An act of kindness regarding a chore that most of us do not consider to be enjoyable: doing the laundry
I am a student at the University of Michigan. Like most college students, I have many tasks to complete on a given day. As a result, I am often distracted and fail to remember to complete the little chores in life such as laundry.
Last Friday afternoon I noticed that the stack of clothes coming out of my laundry bin was growing quite high. I gathered all my dirty bright colored clothing in a bin and put them into the washing machine. Soon after putting my laundry in the machine, I forgot all about it.
The next morning I woke up in a panic. Immediately upon waking up, I realized that I had totally forgotten to transfer my clothes from the washer to the dryer. I ran downstairs to the laundry room, scared that someone may have stolen my clothing or thrown my clean clothing on the dirty laundry floor. Instead of finding my clothing in bad condition, I discovered that all of it had been neatly folded, placed carefully in grocery bags. On top of the bags was a note which read, “Dear fellow resident, I hope I made your day a little better 🙂 Sincerely, Anonymous”. I was so stunned that someone would be kind enough to take time out of their busy schedule just to do another student’s laundry (and not to mention pay the cost to run the dryer machine). This act of kindness made my day. I will be sure to “give it forward”.
