I Like Ramen Noodles.
Submitted by Jennifer R. Lee (Oklahoma City, OK)
For the past 3 years I have given away free ramen and PB&Js; at my campsite at a week long music festival.
First of all I would like to say that I’m not great with words, so I’m going to try and keep it short and sweet. Here it goes:
I’ve been going to Cornerstone Festival every summer since 2003. It’s a Christian music festival in Bushnell, IL, but because of the genres of music it does host (punk, metal, rock, etc.) it does draw a lot of non believers. I’m a very shy and timid person and in 2009 I was attending this week long festival by myself. Since I didn’t want to spend the whole week alone, I was determined to meet new friends. I’ve noticed in previous years of attending that several people either came ill prepared to cook their own food, or they didn’t have the money to buy food at the fest. (I’ve even meet a couple of people who stood outside the festival grounds asking for money so they could buy their ticket to get in.) That is when I came up with the idea of giving away free food from my campsite, and what’s cheaper and easier to make than ramen noodles. That first year was definitely a learning experience, I was poorly prepared not expecting how popular my campsite would become. These past two years my sister was able to join me and we have been better prepared, and we also expanded to providing PB&J sandwiches as well. I have meet so many amazing and interesting people from around the world through this unconventional setup, and thanks to Facebook many of them have become good friends. In the end, I truly believe that by giving I have been blessed in so many ways.
