Raising money for a haitian orphanage affected by the earthquake

I am writing this for my little sister Ruthie. She is ten years old and was adopted from Haiti when she was a baby. Last year, after the earthquake in Haiti, she and her friend Reagan (9 yrs old) decided they wanted to help raise money for the orphanage that Ruthie was adopted from to help provide food and new homes. Their goal was to raise $2,500. They decided they would raise the money by having a swimming challenge, as Reagan is a great swimmer. They decided to start collecting pledges and Reagan would swim 2 miles. The whole community came together and even though these 8 and 9 year olds aimed to raise $2,500, they ended up raising $75,000 and changing the lives of many families and children.

Here is a link to a newspaper article about their fundraising.
